3 Things They Want
March 10, 2017, was the first time we provided Bibles. Since then, we have expanded into multiple cities and states. Each time we provide Bibles, we can count on one thing: there will always be a new lesson to learn. The children we meet and provide Bibles to are unique because they teach us valuable lessons.
Yet, even though different children teach us various lessons, three things remain constant. Each child wants three things, and they are to be seen, heard, and understood. One child in Jackson, MS, reminded us of these desires when she looked at her new Know Bible and said, “We are known.”
The Bible speaks about how God fulfills these desires when we abide in Him. God spoke to Samuel about how man looks at appearance, but God sees more than that. He looks at our hearts. We read in 1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV) But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Not only does God see us, but He also hears us. We read in Proverbs 15:29 (ESV), “The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.” God hears our prayers, cries, and praises. Children in the inner cities want their stories to be heard. They want people to listen to them. Are you listening?
Finally, God understands us. He knows when you rise and when you sleep. He created you and, therefore, understands you. Psalm 139:2 (NASB): “You know when I sit down and when I get up; You understand my thought from far away.”
We provide Bibles to children because God’s Word fulfills what these children desire. The Bible gives them hope and security and teaches them that God loves them. We will continue to provide Bibles to children in the inner cities because they deserve to know Jesus loves them.
